Privacy Policy

Bridge Words is a daily word puzzle created by Ben Stadler. You can play the daily puzzle without creating an account. Sign-in is used for optional archive features, including saving stats and playing missed puzzles.
Information We Collect
- Account information: If you sign in with Google or Apple, Bridge Words receives account information needed to create and maintain your account, such as your email address, provider user ID, and authentication session data.
- Archive and score information: If you use Archives, Bridge Words stores completed puzzle dates, span numbers, puzzle IDs, scores, letter grades, elapsed time, hint counts, wrong guess counts, and related completion details.
- Local game data: Bridge Words stores some progress and settings in your browser storage, including daily stats, in-progress puzzle state, archive session state, paused archive games, and pending sync data.
- Gameplay telemetry: Bridge Words may collect anonymous gameplay events such as game starts, hint usage, solved bridge IDs, completion events, score summaries, elapsed time, viewport size, and browser user agent. Telemetry does not intentionally include raw guesses or clue text.
- Shared score links: When a Bridge Report opens, Bridge Words prepares a score link on your device from the span number, daily or archive mode, score, elapsed time, hint count, and wrong-guess count. Preparing the link does not upload an image or include your account, guesses, clue text, or keystone. If you share or open the link, Netlify and the receiving app may process the link and normal request information to display its score preview.
How We Use Information
- To run the daily puzzle and archive features.
- To save your completed puzzles and display your stats.
- To prevent replaying completed archive puzzles.
- To import existing local stats into your account when you sign in.
- To understand broad gameplay behavior and improve the puzzle.
- To create the public score preview you choose to share.
- To maintain security, debug errors, and prevent abuse.
How Information Is Shared
Bridge Words does not sell your personal information. Bridge Words uses service providers to operate the site, including Netlify for hosting/functions and Supabase for authentication and archive data. If you choose Google or Apple sign-in, those providers process the sign-in request under their own policies. A score link is public to anyone who receives it, can be forwarded, and may be fetched or cached by messaging and social apps to create a preview.
Cookies and Browser Storage
Bridge Words uses browser storage to keep puzzle progress, local stats, archive progress, sign-in session data, and feature flags. Clearing site data in your browser may remove local progress or require you to sign in again.
Your Choices
- You can play the daily puzzle without signing in.
- You can sign out of Archives from the archive menu.
- You can clear local game data by clearing site data for playbridgewords.com in your browser.
- You can request deletion of account-linked archive data by contacting ben@thebenstadler.com.
Data Retention
Local browser data stays on your device until you clear it or Bridge Words replaces it. Account-linked archive records are kept so that your archive and stats continue to work. Anonymous telemetry may be retained for product analysis and debugging. New score links contain their limited score details in the link itself and are designed to remain usable; Netlify and receiving apps may cache their preview images. Bridge Words cannot remove copies retained by recipients or third-party apps.
Children
Bridge Words is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided account information, contact ben@thebenstadler.com.
