Daily word puzzle

Bridge Words

How to Play

Line up matching clues, find the word that fits both, and let five first letters reveal the keystone.

A mug holds coffee. To mug is also to make a face. Move “make a face” opposite “coffee holder,” then build MUG.

Build your five bridges

1

Find a matching pair

Scan both banks of clues. Each clue on the left has one partner on the right. They may point to different meanings of the same word.

2

Line up the clues

Drag a clue up or down until its partner sits across from it. Select their bridge, type the connecting word, and press Build.

3

Look for the keystone

Solved bridges move into place automatically. Their first letters spell a five-letter theme. As letters appear, use that theme to help with the remaining words.

Try it yourself

Scoring

StartEvery puzzle begins with 1,000 points.
GuessesA wrong guess costs 20 points. Moving clues is free.
TimeThe first 2 minutes are free. After that, each started minute costs 10 points, up to a 200-point deduction.
PauseUse Pause when you need a break. There is no countdown that ends the puzzle.

A little help

Select the bridge you want help with, then choose Hint. Start with the clue pair; further help unlocks from there.

1Line up the matching clues: −50.
2Reveal the next letter: −25 per letter.
3Reveal the word’s length: −25.
4Reveal the word. Total hint cost is capped at 200 points for that bridge.

If the other solved or locked rows already determine the clue pair, there is no charge to confirm it.

When you get stuck

1

Try another meaning

A clue may be a noun, a verb, a phrase, or a name. “Make a face” points to a verb; “coffee holder” points to a noun. The bridge word can do both jobs.

2

Read all ten clues

You can solve whichever pair you recognize first. One answer often makes another pairing easier to see.

3

Use the theme as a check

The keystone connects all five answers. It can suggest a direction, but your word still needs to fit both clues.

A new puzzle every day
